Die Daten sind Mein…

The project had the game idea to make data protection attractive. The aim was to convey knowledge in a fun and enjoyable way. A board game was to be designed for this purpose.

During the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaft, a survey was conducted to find out what criteria are important to players when playing board or regular games.

Three criteria were set when planning the game: time, complexity and excitement.
Simulations and tests were carried out to determine how long a turn and the entire game would take.
For complexity, the possibilities of moves and strategies to win were considered.
For the tension and fun factor, the probabilities of winning and how they change in each phase of the game were evaluated.

Rules: The game board is built like from „Monopoly“. You move over the fields by rolling the dice.
Each player has an identity card and playing cards. The identity card contains the player’s own information. The playing cards are there to protect the data.
The goal of the game is to collect data from the other players to find out opponent’s identity. The identity was exposed then the following data was not secret anymore: age, name, family status, address, phone number, email and bank account number.

For the final version, methods and game strategies from the different games were used as inspiration and partially adopted.

After the game concept was ready. Simulations were made of how complex the moves are, depending on the probability of winning.

In addition, statistics were created, indicating which of the personal data was found out the most.
